Color Therapy

View from my office

View from my office

Lately my color has been green. Perhaps it is because I moved to the mountains where I am surrounded by trees. I find the color green is very soothing and when I look outside my window and see the vibrant green trees, I feel relaxed and peaceful. Weirdly, I had painted the walls in my bedroom of the old house green. Now in my new house the walls are white, but I am surrounded by big windows which allows the green scenery to be seen from every room of my house! Interesting… What color do you gravitate to?

This is the article that I read in my Tuesday yoga class.  I wanted to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it!

Color Therapy

Loving the Light

by Madisyn Taylor

Often the colors we like best are the colors we most need in our lives and provide us with subtle vibrational help.

The wondrous displays of color that define the world around us are manifestations of light and, as such, each possesses a unique frequency. The attraction we feel to certain colors is not a matter of pure chance—we experience the beneficial affects of color even while blindfolded. We are naturally drawn to those colors that lift our mood, expand consciousness, and restore health. Color therapy, also known as chromo therapy, allows us to harness the power of individual color frequencies to heal the body, positively influence our emotions, and achieve a renewed sense of inner harmony through sympathetic resonance. Colors do not directly affect the composition of our physical, mental, or aura, but they noninvasively alter the vibrational characteristics of diverse elements of the self so that each resonates at its proper healthy frequency.

It is easy to overlook the colors that saturate our personal and professional environments. Yet these, whether in the form of the paint on our walls or the clothing we wear, can influence our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings to an extraordinary degree. The colors we like best are often those that we need most in our lives, and there are many ways we can utilize them. Basking under a colored lightbulb or gazing at an area of color can stimulate or calm us depending on the color we choose. For example, red stimulates the brain, circulatory systems, and first chakra, giving us an energy boost, while blue acts on the throat chakra, soothing the body and mind. And when we do not feel drawn to any one color, we can still benefit from the healing effects of white light, which is an amalgamation of all the colors of the visible spectrum. It is a cleansing color, one that can purify us on many levels.

Human beings evolved to delight in vivid sunsets and rainbows, to enjoy the sensations awakened by particularly eye-catching color, and to decorate our spaces and ourselves with bright colors. In essence, we evolved to love the light because of its harmonizing influence on every aspect of the self. When we pay attention to the potential affects of individual colors, we can modify our spaces, wardrobes, and habits to ensure that we introduce the colors that speak to us most deeply in our everyday lives.

Yoga PEEPS

yoga peeps There has been a lot of debate on whether PEEPS are good and why they are so popular at Easter time. 700 million PEEPS are sold each year.  Some people feel so strongly about it that I have heard them debating their views on PEEPS on the radio. In 1953 it took 27 hours to make just one PEEP, today it takes just six minutes.

Here are some more fun facts:

  1. In the late 1950’s PEEPS wings were “clipped” to give them a sleek, modern look.
  2. In the 2014 Easter season, cake flavored PEEPS were released.
  3. Yellow is America’s best selling color of PEEPS chicks and bunnies.
  4. Yellow and white PEEPS chicks and bunnies came first, followed by pink, lavender, blue, green and orange.
  5. If you had 8,000 PEEPS bunnies, and you stood them in a straight vertical line, you could reach the top of the Sears Tower in Chicago.
  6. Certain PEEPS are free of gluten, dairy and egg!

With all the stress and problems going on in our lives and in the world, I thought that we should pause and take moment to thank PEEPs for giving us something else to talk about! PEEPs are adorable, colorful, and allow themselves to stand out in a crowd. They inspire smiles, laughter and are simply enjoyable. Whether you like to eat them or not, you cannot deny the inner child in you that smiles when you see them.

And now as you can see above, PEEPS are taking to yoga to handle the stress and demands on them from this time of year! My friend Julie sent me this picture and I totally brightened my day and made me smile. I hope it brings you a smile and brightens your day too.

Happy Spring everyone!

Namaste.

Live Your Life

This weekend I was reminded of how lucky I am to have such good friends that I can laugh with, cry with, celebrate with, share yoga with, and simply enjoy life with. In this day in age we tend to get so caught up in our own lives that we forget to actually live it. Our need to sustain our living style actually gets in the way of enjoying life. I had my dear friends up to my new house this weekend and we literally just ate, drank and conversed. We even had a sleep over! The next day we enjoyed the out doors and more conversations, more food and the simplicity of hanging out together. It was so refreshing to just stop, breathe and live.  This weekend reminded me of why I work so hard and commute so far. I love my new home and new life style. Living in the mountains has restored me, enlightened me, and has given me back my sight. I can see the world so much clearer and brighter. I find myself wanting to enjoy life more, slow down more, practice yoga more, and explore the nature surrounding me. I feel inspired to live.

So in this moment, I ask you, what inspires you to live your life? What is stopping you from enjoying the things you love to do? If it is the business of your work and home life, perhaps you can cut back somewhere. Here are a few suggestions to have more time to live and enjoy your life. Even five minutes a day can restore you.

  • Wake up a few minutes earlier than normal and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea outside.
  • Take a walk on your lunch break.
  • Take your lunch break at a park.
  • Take a break from Face Book. ( you would be surprised how extra time you really have)
  • Take a walk after dinner.
  • Do some yoga and/or meditation.
  • Spend time with friends and family.
  • Most important- find some time to do NOTHING- just breathe and take in the sweetness that is your life.

Life’s Challanges

This past month has been filled with challenges for me and my husband. It is hard to believe that it has been a month since we moved up to our new home in Pine Mountain Club. We have been adjusting to commuting to work, mountain life, my cat being sick, and dealing with his brother’s heart attack. A lot of changes happened and many struggles have come along, but one thing remained same. We have stuck together and supported each other through all of this. We both understand that many if  these changes and adjustments are out of our control and that we must support each other everyday. His brother’s heart attack made us really look at the big picture of life. To value what is truly important and to let go of things that are not. We cherish each other, our family, our friends, our health and happiness.

So as you are faced with your own life challenges, I hope that you can discover what is really important to you and cherish that: and then be able to let go of the things that do not serve you. This is really where the hard work comes in. Letting go of your need to control the situation, to understand it- for there may not be a reason, and to have the strength to simply let go. It is hard when you in the moment of of a challenge to be able to let go. Be patient and let yourself feel whatever it is you are feeling, then take a step back, find your breath, and use this opportunity to grow. Remind yourself that this a temporary struggle and allow yourself to lean on someone if need be. I have also found that being in touch with nature reminds me of how big and beautiful the world really is and these challenges are small bumps in the long road of life. Take a moment to see the beauty around you and feel gratitude for your life.

I am grateful to my wonderful husband, vet, family and friends for all of the advice and support as I have been adjusting to my new schedule. I am grateful everyday for all of goodness in my life.

Namaste.

Bending For Strength

lightning TreeGraphic_webA tree is only as strong as its ability to bend. It must be able to give  a little when nature pushes against it.  A tree continues to grow upward during the times it is weighted down with snow, rain and wind. After a storm it actually comes out taller, stronger and more beautiful. We can take the nature of trees and apply it to our own lives. Each of us had a storm of one kind or another in our lives. From the most extreme like a death/illness in the family, to a drizzle like an argument with a friend. Of course, there are the heavy rains of dramas in-between those two. If you can allow yourself to bend with these situations, and perhaps let go of the need control it or to always be right,  you will grow from the experience. Perhaps  afterwards, you come out more knowledgeable, more aware, more truthful, and more compassionate to yourself and others. In essence, each storm we face makes us a better person.

Mountain Life & My Personal Growth

I have lived in my new house for two weeks and just finished my first week of commuting. I have learned a lot about mountain life,  and in this short time,  I have grown in ways I never imagined.

Here are the things I have learned so far:

1. To drive on the freeway next to large trucks without being nervous or irritated in sharing the road. I just keep my distance and respect the job they are doing to bring supplies that maintain our sustainability.

2. To plan ahead in my grocery shopping and buy two of everything so I do not run out of things.

3. To get up at 3:30am to give myself time to get ready and drive safely to my 6am classes.

4. To allow myself to enjoy my downtime between my classes in SCV. Instead of frantically running from place to place, I am learning to enjoy the breaks in between to just breathe.

5. To stop and look around at the magnificent nature all around me. Living in the mountains reminds me of how big the world really is and how small some of my problems are. I can take a step back and see my life so clearly now. I can see how blessed I am and feel deep gratitude for all of the great things in my life.

6. To use technology without panicking! I can use my cruise control, use my Bluetooth panel in my car, use a computer outside of my home to check my email, and utilize more functions on my smart phone. ( BTW- these are huge things for me!)

7. To reach out to my new community and take actions to start teaching up here. It is hard to start from scratch and introduce myself, but I have set up a trial yoga class at the local gym so people can meet me.

8. To load my car, lay my clothes out, and gather my food  the night before so that I have everything I need for the next day of work.

9. To drive on the s-curves in the mountain without feeling nervous. I actually look forward to them now! I must say my new Mini Cooper handles like a dream and has made my drive a lot better.

10. To ALWAYS have a flashlight with fresh batteries close by. Especially in the bathroom so that when the power goes out and I am caught naked, I don’t panic and run around in the pitch black looking for a flashlight! ( True story!)

Here are a couple of pictures from this mornings snow fall.

All Settled In

Good Morning!

I am all settled into my new home in the mountains. My husband and I are learning a new way of life and it is very exciting! I have been busy setting up the house and unpacking. It feels wonderful to let go of things I do not use and utilize just what I need to run the house. My husband has become an expert at making a fire in our stove that heats the house. He has been busy in the garage with sorting boxes, installing new electric garage door openers and making room for our cars. We can proudly say we have unpacked enough boxes to have both cars in the garage!

I am back to my full teaching schedule this week. I will be working in SCV on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays. Click on the tab “Toni’s Class Schedule” tab at the top of the page to see where I am teaching. Additionally, I will continue to see private clients in SCV. If you are interested in setting something up, click on the tab below to contact me.

I will be posting about my yoga retreats soon. I am still getting settled up here and getting used to my new schedule. I just got my first private client up here and I am very excited!

Thank you all for supporting this move. Everyone has been so helpful from helping me pack, giving me boxes, helping me unpack, covering my classes, and being flexible with my scheduling changes. I feel so blessed to have so many kind and wonderful people in my life.

Here are a couple of pictures from last night’s snow fall.

Peace and Love.
